This week’s senior spotlight goes to the current president of the UConn Men’s Rugby Club, Miles Richards. He is currently our starting hooker for our game this weekend. Miles joined the club his freshman year in the Summer of 2016 and is one of the most tenured players on the current roster. His previous athletic experience included playing football, baseball, and wrestling for Bunnell High School in Stratford, CT. Currently, he is majoring in Economics and Professional Sales, which led him down to Fort Myers, Florida this past summer to intern with Gartner, which is the world’s leading technology research and advisory firm. He also played for the Naples Hammerheads, a local Florida Men’s Club. After college Miles intends to find a job in either event sales or the technology industry, where he can further develop his professional selling skills.
As president of the Men’s Rugby Club, Miles dedicates a substantial amount of time to ensure the club operates to the best of its abilities, but that does not stop him from being further involved in the UConn community. Miles spoke a bit about his role as president and being a member of the team, “Everyday I enjoy the challenges of being UCONN Rugby’s President. I love the aspect of giving back to a club that has given so much to me, and I am driven by the results of my hard work as president. I live everyday trying to get 1% better and this role allows me to grow in that way.” In addition to rugby, he works as a club sports manager and participates in the Economics Society. After all of that Miles also finds time to volunteer. Last February, Miles raised money for the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center while participating in Huskython, UConn’s annual dance marathon.
Miles embodies the values of the UConn Men’s Rugby team, and he is this week’s Senior Spotlight as we take on Dartmouth. The Game will be played at Dartmouth with a kickoff time of 1 P.M.
