UConn 5 – Northeastern 53

UCONN Huskies 4-0 travelled to Brighton Mass to face the Northeastern Huskies 4-0 on Saturday for winner take all in Liberty Conference D1 New England Division. Most were expecting a good “ole dog fight” that didn’t actually happen. NE Huskies won easily 53-5 and pulled any teeth young UCONN may had early in the match.

Both teams played first 20 minutes period evenly until NE scored 3 overload tries all unconverted to take 15-0 lead at half.

UCONN made a few substitutes at half to try to keep up with NE superior speed but NE came out and quickly scored 1:30 into 2nd half to expand lead 22-0. UConn responded with their only try of the day 5-22. After few minutes it was clear NE would not be deterred from their goal of winning large and outscored UCONN 31 to 0 to finish 80 minutes with a thorough 53-5 victory.

“There wasn’t much we did well today,” summed up UConn Coach Merola.

“You come to compete for a championship and we were completely outplayed mentally and physically. Coach Ed Turbidy, his staff and his players were tremendous today and it was a tough lesson for our young team to learn. Congrats to Northeastern for excellent season.”

“We still have 2 weeks to regroup for LC Bowl Series on 11/18…we lost a championship opportunity today to much better squad.”
