Weekend Recap: 9/21/2019

This past Saturday, September 21st, The UConn Men’s Rugby team faced off against Tufts in their Liberty Conference Home Opener. In 2018, UConn defeated Tufts 33-0. On Saturday, the Jumbos came back with vengeance and defeated UConn in a heart wrenching match. Final Score: 5-11.

UConn was able to score first, with a try scored about halfway through the first half, but the conversion was missed. That score would end up being the only points in the first half due to the intense defensive play of both sides. At halftime the score of the game was 5-0 in favor of UConn. The Huskies kept up the valiant efforts on defense, but in the end could not hold Tufts in the final minutes of the game. The Jumbos scored a try and slotted two penalty kicks in the second half to come away with the victory. UConn’s lone try scorer for the match was senior Adam Angleucci.

This weekend, UConn will travel to Boston College looking to bounce back from the close loss.
